Day 2 in Nassau
Well folks, the Bahamas are lovely, I am reminded of Fiji, but cleaner and more affluent. It is the only place I have ever been where a 3 piece band plays at the airport to welcome you. It was really nice. It is quite a loud place though, we ventured down town today and the noise is quite disconcerting, The leaf blower at the resort sounded like there were 3 of them, made my ears ring and we were only walking past. The motor bikes and trucks are really loud too, not sure if it is a maintenance issue, but they are really, really loud. The music is also on high volume around the town, maybe I am just getting old.
The buildings are painted in all different colours, like a lot of inland buildings, but they are very muted colours and really lovely, not brash or gaudy at all. I really like them. It is a really calm and idealic place, apart from the occassional loud noises, near the roads.
We walked around a lot and Kearie visited the Slavery and Emancipation museum, it was really hot and humid inside, so I waited ourside. I got to chat to a local lady, who told me all about herself and her children. I could only catch about a 3rd of what she said but she was friendly and I enjoyed our chat. Kearie said the museum was good, very informative.
I went with her to the Pirate museum, it was good, very amusing. We rounded a corner and there was all this whispering about stealing a thousand pounds and then the voice goes, "Shhh, someone's coming" and it went quiet, it gave us a laugh. It was really informative though, on the whole. I didn't know much about pirates and wasn't aware there were quite a few lady pirates, many had their own flags too and didn't just use the Jolly Roger, though some did.
We did some shopping and had a drink and an icecream at a bar called Smugglers, the staff had on shirts with "Deadman, tells no tales". on the back. It was next to the pirate museum.
We saw a building being constructed and I worry at the way they do it. It would not pass inspection back home.
Tonight we got take away and ate on our balcony, overlooking the lagoon, it was really nice and then we played a game of Pony Canasta, and she beat me, I only taught her how to play this trip and she beat me both games we played....😕😠
