Dominica and the Whales

Today we cruised to the island of Dominica.  It is a really nice island, the houses are so colourful.  We went to a flea market on the end of the doc and brought a charm each.  Then we visisted a museum, it was interesting, but the humidity on the island was horrific.  We took some snaps, but we didn't hang around.  We went back to the ship for lunch and then joined our whale and dolphin tour.

Some of the museum displays

We never saw any dolphins and we were out for about an hour before we spotted our first whale.  It was amazing, we were told to look for the spray, which looks like smoke or mist, from the distance.  We spotted the first one and boat raced over to it.  They do either a shallow dive, which lasts about 7 minutes, or a deep dive, which lasts about 45 minutes, and that is when you see their tales come out to the ocean, for the deep dive.  It was amazing, we watched the first one, for ages, and then it deep dived.  Kearie spotted the next one, and the boat was after it too.  We watched it for awhile and then it too did a deep dive, there was a third one we saw in the distance, but it disappeared, so we didn't get too close to that one.  It was a great day and well worth it, we are stoked to see three whales, no dolphins though.

It was an amazing experience

I thought I had seen my first aussie on our cruise, but no, she was a Brit.  She said she often gets mistaken for an Australia, I could see why, I thought it was a bit weird she was wearing an Aussie T shirt, but then I thought people often wear shirts with other cities or countries on them, so why not.  She did say she had been to Aus.  I thought it was strange though.

Tomorrow we go to Barbados and a submarine ride, so looking forward to that

Cheers for now
