Last day in the Bahamas
We started a bit late as Kearie had had a bad night. We went for breakfast at a local cafe and we got eggs on toast, it was delicious. We were given two jam/jelly satchets each, Apple and Grape. I wanted to try both as I know many Americans get annoyed that Australia doesn't have grape flavour in many things, mainly only lollies. So I was all for it, to see how great it is. I started with the apple and I swear it tasted like Marmalade, but not as bitter, it was a little weird. Then I tried the grape and I started to laugh. Kearie wanted to know if I hated it, or what was happening, I swear it tasted like Marmalade, only not as bitter, they were exactly the same. I don't really understand the fuss. But it is the first time we had tea since we arrived on the island. No one sells it, only coffee. We enjoyed our brew. I almost left my hat there, the waitress had to follow us out. I have almost lost it several times, so I don't know how long it will last, or if it will ever see Aus again.
We went back into town, this time we decided to go to the downtown area, and not just the Junkanoo, well that happened to be only one block further, so no big deal really, we had already walked most of that yesterday, but it all really looks the same anyway. It was much quieter today, no loud music, or motorbikes, or trucks. So not sure why, but the experience was better.
We went to the memorial garden, it has a plinth and a plaque for all the soldiers they lost in the first world war. It was nice, we sat for awhile and enjoyed the ambiance. We then wandered further over and Kearie wanted to see Goverment house, I had no interest in that, so I went back to Smugglers and waited for her there. She was only about 5 minutes behind me, apparently the house wasn't much to look at. We had lunch and then decided to return to the resort and have a lazy afternoon. We had a lay on the deck chairs by the lagoon, and later took a swim in the pool. It was a lovely leisurley day.
We then had dinner at a local restaurant, the eating places here are very expensive. It cost us about $160 AUD for two pastas, 1 small garlic bread, 4 soft drinks and a piece of cake, Lucky we are leavign today, or we would be broke. But the restaurant was nice and Kearie noticed a turtle in the water by our table, the owner brought us a couple of bits of bread roll and we fed the trutle, it was amazing. FIrst there was only one large one, then a small one appeared and then a middle sized one and then another large one. We watched them for ages. We also noticed some kind of flat long creature on the bottom of the lagoon, at first I thought it was just rubbish, but it moved occasionally. Later it moved once too often and the second large turtle noticed it and went for the kill. It was devoured in a few minutes, ripped apart. Never seen that before.
If you come to the Bahamas, you can swim with the pigs, yes you read that right, lots of people do it apparently, We weren't interested and it wasn't cheap either, but then nothing is. You could also hire a car as they drive on the left, like we do. Many of the cars have right hand drive and some are left, so it depends where they imported the cars from, the UK or the US. But they all drive on the left, regardless of where the steering wheel is.
That is all for today, tomorrow we fly to Puerto Rico
Cheers
Lones
The water where the pigs are looks so clear and inviting.
ReplyDeleteKaren Fuster, the girls we all met on the Baltics tour we went on years ago came from Puerto Rico.
Hi Carol, yes I wish they were still living here, but they moved to the US. I was thinking of messaging her to see if she could give me some good places to visit while I am here.
